I LOVE Google Analytics – ever since I can remember, it’s always been the best option for the “little guy” to track what there website is doing and over the years more and more functionality has been introduced to provide complex reporting suitable for large businesses. Quite often though, the simplest of insights are buried underneath the layers upon layers that this extra functionality provides.
Despite that complexity though, all of the sites that I create use analytics as the core for website insights, mainly due to being able to add a simple plugin that draws data into the wordpress dashboard. This provides my clients with the ability to see how their site is performing and which pages are proving the most successful.
What saddens me though is the lack of plugin support for displaying those sophisticated data sets within the worpdress dashboard. Quite by accident though I came across an open source software called Piwik. Not only does it display data within the wordpress dash beautifully but it does it in REAL TIME.
